This is my song of the day... I don't remember Sesame Street being this exciting.

I am disappearing for a bit to start cooking mole.
Now, my last attempt at this was a bit harrowing and resulted in a small fire, mini volcanic mole eruptions spewing chocolate and chilis all over my walls,  and frantic and futile flailing of my bath towel underneath my smoke alarm.
I am taking La Lupe and Vicente into the depths with me, and I am going to chop, reduce, blend and if necessary, cry my way through part deu.  Cravings will do this to a girl and this time may be a bit cathartic. I will read the chocolate swirls and let you know.

crazy dancer woman

natalie.. i love you. I have been a groupie from the moment you set foot in habana and regaled us with your tales of selling your clothes on the street in italy in order to stay afloat. I love your Michael Jackson mohawk, your duvet cover, and I love you even when you break cafe con leche glasses in a million pieces right on my bare leg.  So.. just shake it my tigeresa!

It had to arrive, but each time it does, I am in disbelief. It seems to sneak up a bit more quickly each year. Labor Day.. really? How does this happen to me each time?
I am always left feeling a bit despondent and yearning for just one more beach day. Just one! But I will take what I can get! And our last hurrah was nothing but classic. Adventures on the LIRR, pink bathrobes, surfboards, hula hoops, c town bbq shopping, and the best beach umbrella ever.

Worked this little flick into my schedule and decided that I am destined to become the crazy ex-wife.  Just the truth. And it's okay.

I love horns. Trumpets in particular. There is something about a melody that fades away only to segue into a honey filled horn phrase that makes my heart want to burst. In a good way, of course. This explains a bit of my love affair with mariachi music and old school salsa. With mariachi, well.. you sing along, throw back some tequila, curse your ex-lovers, profess your undying love for your horse, and pay homage to your roots. Crying is good, too.

When it comes to salsa, I can't help it. I move. I just go until I can't eke out another turn. There are breaks, of course. Maybe for a cold beer, or glass of water, but then, I have to dive back in. There is no standing on the sidelines. Absolutely impossible.

Now.. in keeping with the spirit of outdoor dancing, I was fortunate enough to have an evening off for something that I had been looking forward to all summer. Willie Colon. Outdoors. East River. 75 degrees. Heaven.

The energy was insane, the neighborhood was beyond ready, and Willie delivered the honey.

Deja los rollers, mami.. let's go!
